Emma Rose grew up between the West Country and London, loving equally the countryside, the sea and the city. Her colourful family instilled a love of art, theatre, literature, photography, dance, nature, gardening and a wander-lust.
After being educated at Sherborne in Dorset, she settled in London. A vibrant London career followed - in theatre (Maybox Theatres) and film (Hobo Films, Mayfair Entertainment, Zooom Photographic and Film & General Productions) alongside dancing/choreography (Flos and Theatre In Trust).
During these years she also studied painting, photography and sculpture in Chelsea through ILEA. In tandem there has also been a life time of artistic tuition with her step-father, Godfrey Cake FRSA the painter, photographer and sculptor. She also trained in tap, modern, jazz and choreography at the Dance Centre, Covent Garden.
After moving to Somerset she settled in a beautiful village just outside Bath in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In Bath she studied abstract theory/colour/technique which fuelled her creative passion to open her Art Studio in Wellow.
From an early age, Emma travelled extensively - these vivid experiences often revealed in her work, from memory and imagination. With an obsession for colour, form, texture and patina, her eye finds beauty in the most unlikely places which makes her work atmospheric and evocative. She is a colourist using mixed media - acrylics, enamel, spray, gold, sand, oil, India ink and deep iridescence float on canvas.
In tandem, the natural world and a love of books has led her to a distilling of her exuberant style into literary land and seascapes. Her atmospheric canvases pulsate with exotic colours , textures and dynamic brushwork and mark making.
The skies and landforms reflect her interest in the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi...the process and beauty of ageing which creates irregularity and imperfection.
She now regularly exhibits in Bath, the West Country and London.
Visits to her studio are encouraged and information about forthcoming exhibitions and events are located in the NEWS section above.
Emma Rose was Shortlisted for the Arts Award at the BATH LIFE AWARDS 2011 and 2013.
"Having known Emma for more than thirty years I've watched her develop into an artist of tremendous sensitivity and depth; raw talent, realised in stunning works of bold and vivid beauty." Hugh Bonneville/Actor
“For those yet to meet or witness her creative prowess first hand, Emma Rose is without doubt one of the most talented painters I have ever had the privilege to meet. Unlike many other artists however, she also happens to be a quite beautiful person, open hearted, accommodating and naturally warm spirited. The extraordinary equilibrium she achieves daily in her roles as Artist, devoted Wife and Mother is testimony to her great courage, her fierce intelligence and a remarkable talent. A.k.a. the Rothko of Wellow, her paintings evoke immediate response from something deep within, though perhaps unlike Rothko, this feeling is unique for its sense of hope and love. Must be seen.” Mark McGann/Actor Director
" Your work breathes of fresh colour with just the right degree of mystique i.e. art to live and deepen with. I'm sure Turner would herald you as a great-great-great grandaughter" Louisa McCormack/Writer

'' What i admire most about Emma Rose , apart from her talent as a fine painter , is her self determination , conviction and sheer hard work that she puts into promoting her art business. This is particularly impressive in such difficult financial times when Emma , like many artists has had to work even harder to sell her
beautiful paintings which proved very successful in 2012. In that year she not only produced a whole new body of artwork but also found the energy and drive to single-handedly organise and promote the projects and exhibitions to sell that work. She still managed to also give her time to charity work for the area. Emma's paintings are full of vibrancy , colour and energy , just like the artist herself and she deserves to have some recognition for this
energy and her abilities.'' Louise Rushford/Designer
