Mountain of the Gods

Mountain of the Gods

70x60cm
Indian Ink and Acrylic on Canvas

While in Pompeii we heard a tale - that tears of joy came from the Roman god of wine, Bacchus, landing on the slopes of Vesuvius - resulting in vines emerging (from which the delicious Lacryma Christi is made).
So the purple on the slopes of this Vesuvius represents the grapes and fromt he heavens, the puppet strings hang from the hands of the gods down to the mountain.... controlling it and waiting for man to sin enough to make it erupt.
