The clients live very near Corsham Court with its beautiful Capability Brown landscape. Their long walks with their dog William in this country idyll was the starting point for this commission. The spec was, to include and be inspired by the Trees - oaks and beeches, dappled light, shadows, big sky - an English Arcadia. We walked together through the landscape, taking lots of photographs as a starting point leading onto my interpretation of the brief.
The couple had already bought my painting Bleak Beauty, and now are delighted to be able to hang this painting the other side of their contemporary fireplace. The commission is 120x150cm.
This photograph was taken in my studio. We all agreed that it was almost impossible for a photograph to show the depth of many many layers of paints and inks that make the landscape nearly float - the trees in particularly. Still this photo gives you an idea.

"We were introduced to Emma through a friend and went to a private view at her exhibition in Bath last year. We loved her work and snapped up an original called 'Bleak Beauty' there and then It's an imagined wintry landscape at dusk, which we love - dripping with purple and gold. As Emma does commissions, we invited her to visit our house in the summer. We were looking for something special for a large wall in our new house in Corsham. We chatted to Emma about what we wanted and walked around the local area with her so she could take some photographs. A few months later, we have just taken delivery of 'William's Arcadia' which is a large landscape, inspired by the beautiful park behind our house. It has created a truly striking feature - and we are delighted."
